The word Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) refers to a very complex teaching and practice in Tibetan Buddhism. Although the teaching is very advanced and difficult to comprehend, there is a tradition of offering it to large public audiences. In this movie, Werner Herzog, one of the most interesting and intriguing filmmakers today, focuses on the Kalachakra and its initiation given to the public in Bodhgaya, India. He chronicles the ceremony with well-selected images and his own narration, incorporating interview clips with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, a lively debate between high-level monks at the gathering, an interview with a Tibetan political prisoner who had spent 37 years in jail, and the pilgrimage to the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet.
