We mostly use bicycles and motorbikes. One of our principle aims is for our transport to be as sustainable as possible. Our solar panels are ready to charge electric bicycles and motorcycles for our volunteers.
We have a small fleet of bicycles on hand that are for volunteer use. A security deposit will be asked of anyone receiving a bicycle. With so many cycles to maintain, bicycle mechanics volunteers are always needed.
Zero Emission Vehicle (Tri-cycle)
We have a cargo tricycle we use for our reforestation work. Transporting tools, buckets and water to the forest can be difficult on foot. A solution for this, which was kindly donated to us from Auroville, is a cargo tricycle that helps us transport these materials to different parts of the forest. This tricycle is also nicknamed our “zero emission vehicle”.
We do not yet have the means to purchase all the equipment we need to activate our sustainable transport, but we are working hard to have the system working as soon as possible!
Tempo Traveller Van
We have a Tempo Traveller van that was very kindly donated by friends. In the future we shall fuel it on environmentally friendly bio-diesel from Pongamia Pinata seeds (Karanj seeds), grown in Sadhana Forest.
We shall use our van to travel to villages and share the experience of Sadhana Forest and to gather from them indigenous knowledge and skills about sustainable practices. We will encourage the use of effective sustainable farming techniques, planting, solar energy, compost toilets and water conservation. This has been done before during our Eco Cycle Yatras.
