New huts

Yeah ! The new huts are now happy homes !

Construction of individual huts for long term volunteers has been happening over the past few weeks. With the help of  Manu, our good friend and architect, and a hard working team of Tamil builders, five huts are now fully complete. These huts are being built on an extension to the community area that we attained last year. They are made of natural local materials, as all existing huts in Sadhana Forest.

With this design of hut there is no need for a fan or air conditioning. They are built to let the air flow. Entrance opening and windows give a nice feeling of space. It’s actually like sleeping outside. In this hot climate any small breeze during the night is a relief. And so the inhabitants of these new huts enjoy their new homes!

Nick: “Designing my own personal space is something nice, as I haven’t had that since a long time. I enjoyed thinking about how to use the space. Where do I want the bed, etc. Also as the hut is so natural (wood, woven palm leaves, coconut rope) it made me think very consciously about everything I bring in.”
