In recent years, Sadhana Forest Kenya has experimented with “Moveable Shade Structures for Direct Seeding”.
Trees are directly seeded into the soil under these mobile shade nets. The shade net provides shelter from the elements and allows the trees to grow from seed. With this technique there is no longer a need for a separate nursery to grow saplings which then need to be transplanted. This saves time and is cost effective.
The shade structures allow for rapid growth. After a few months, the structure is moved to a new location and the process can start again.
