Uniquely in the animal kingdom, humans have managed to adapt and thrive in every environment on Earth. This series explores human settlements and lifestyles in the extremes of our planet: the Arctic, mountains, oceans, jungles, grasslands, deserts, rivers and even the urban jungle. It looks at the people who survive by building complex, exciting and often mutually beneficial relationships with their animal neighbors and the hostile elements of the natural world.

The first episode in the series, Oceans, features how humans, despite being air-breathing animals not designed to survive in water, have found ways to live an almost aquatic life to exploit the sea’s riches.
