Our next Eco Film on Friday, July 13th, will be Powaqqatsi – Life in Transformation.
Genre: Documentary, Godfrey Reggio, 1988, 100 Minutes, English
A spectacular, breathtaking five-part dreamscape about the nature of civilization and its ever-important impact on the environment, with music by Philip Glass. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. Directed by Godfrey Reggio.
Powaqqatsi, or “life in transformation,” is the second part of a trilogy of experimental documentaries whose titles derive from Hopi compound nouns. The legendary Koyaanisqatsi, or “life out of balance,” was the first, with Naqoyqatsi, or “life in war,” being the third. Director Godfrey Reggio seems somewhat more confrontational than before, and his major collaborator, composer Philip Glass, stretches to embrace world music in this movie.
