Our next Eco Film on Friday November 30th will be another episode of the BBC series Planet Earth: Deserts.
Documentary, 2006 – 51 minutes. Narrated by David Attenborough. BBC. UK, English. W/English subtitles
Shot by 71 camera crews in 62 countries over 5 years, Planet Earth redefined natural history filmmaking and amazed viewers with never-before-seen animal behaviors and startling views of locations captured by cameras for the first time.
“Deserts” features the harsh environment that covers one third of the land on Earth. The animals who inhabit these areas struggling to live in such an unforgiving habitat, include African elephants who walk 50 miles every day to find food and red kangaroos who moisten their forelegs with saliva to keep cool. The final sequence illustrates one of nature’s most fearsome spectacles: a billion-strong plague of desert locusts, destroying all vegetation in its path.
