In a floating monastery in a pristine lake, an elderly monk is raising a boy, teaching him the lessons of life equally with patience and sternness. As the seasons pass and the disciple becomes a young man, he has to learn a few hard lessons for himself. Using the symbology of seasons and the story of a man’s life, the director describes the arc of existence. A gem of a movie that is as entertaining as it is contemplative, with many light moments of comedy.
