On a beautiful Wednesday Sadhana Forest welcomed for the second time a very
special children’s performance.
I actually want to tell you about the first time this happened, about
a week and a half earlier. It was a surprise, at least for me. On
Saturday night, our weekly open podium night had so far only three
acts planned. Most of the volunteers were out for the evening, the
place was quiet.
At around 8:15 I heard loud voices and the sound of an engine coming
from far in the dark. What is happening? Is this joyful sound coming
here? Yes, it is! Spontaneously Linden (one of our volunteers) and I
were standing at both side of the path, transformed into a welcoming
door for a line of about 50 children from the nearby village of
Morattandi. Vanakkam! Vanakkam! Carrying bags with costumes and
attributes, they brought their excitement into the community space.
They came with our great volunteer Palani from Morattandi, who by the
way turned out to be a very skilful and funny actor. Kids between
three and a half and fourteen years old performed in small groups for
about an hour. We had some traditional dance, yoga demonstration,
drama (in Tamil) about social and environmental issues, an amazing
performance by dance teacher Vijay (a master at Michael Jackson
moves), and modern Bollywood style dance. At 9:30, after a loud
applause, the children left the hut and disappeared as suddenly as
they appeared, heading back to their village. Time to sleep for me. I
walked to my bed with a big smile from al the happy children that just
gave us this dynamic present.
