Documentary (Consumer Awareness)- 90 minutes, 2007. Directed by Bill Haney. English.

Every year, the United States buys 200,000 tons of sugar from the Dominican Republic. The vast majority of workers in the Dominican sugar industry are from neighboring Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The movie tells us about the conditions of these workers, their vulnerability as undocumented immigrants and the rampant racism against Haitians. The workers are often reluctant to file complaints regarding labor abuses due to fear of retaliation. The people who are involved in the struggle to improve their working conditions face enormous challenges. Despite prolonged international scrutiny, the situation still remains dire.
