The Eco Film on Friday, March 5th: The Chances of the World Changing
Winner of the Conservation Award and Jury Prize at the Bend Film Festival
Genre: Documentary. Director: Eric Daniel Metzger. USA, 2006. 99 minutes.
An inspiring story about Richard Ogust, who while eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Manhattan, NY witnessed a live diamondback terrapin turtle being prepared for a soup. Horrified, he bought the turtle and thus began his career as a conservationist. Ten years later and with more than 1200 turtles in his New York City apartment, director Eric Metzger spends two years documenting Richard’s rewards, sacrifices and struggles to manage so many endangered turtles. This visually poetic film goes deep to show a man working mostly alone to save one of the world’s oldest creatures whose disappearance will be felt by all if they were to become extinct.
