Super PONGAL!!!

by | 8.03.2011

Time to celebrate the harvest in Tamil Nadu.

We were invited by New Colors, a learning and social support center for underprivileged children,  to join them in Edayanchavady to commemorate the traditional Pongal.

We had an amazing time, full of fun and many activities.

In the morning we did non-competitive games, theatre, running, blind fold, laughing yoga, acrobatic exercises and many more. We finished the morning by throwing many natural colors at each other like in the Holi festival.

Then we had a delicious homemade lunch of idly, coconut chutney, varay, papadam and other yummy things.

Sadhana Forest Volunteers were very happy to enjoy the Indian culture with all the kindness of Kumar’s family and Renana who organized everything.

In the afternoon, the women of the village came to do kolam with the children, the traditional paintings and mandalas on the road, made with different colors and sand. Daily they do this every morning in front of the door of their houses to bring good luck for the day.

We finished the celebration with a lot of energy, playing music and dancing all together full of joy.

The good news is that New Colors have a small piece of land and they also want to create a Children’s Land applying what has inspired them in Sadhana Forest.
