Light rains have arrived and is time to plant many trees… fruit trees, native trees and many flowers, but for that we need to prepare the land where they will live forever.

Hands in the dirt and lets get to work!!!
Sinse two weeks we’ve been very active creating beds shaped like volcanos with the kids. These mounds have a diameter of one meter and an excavated ring around it to retain rain water for the plant.

To support the growth of the baby trees, it is necessary to water the mound for one week to create a reservoir and make the ground softer for the roots.

Excitement was in the air and the kids from the local villages, Aikiam School in Auroville, the Sadhana Forest volunteers created many mounds around the Children’s Land gardens with full power energy! everybody was very happy to prepare the first tree beds of the season.

Last Wednesday, with the support of the Sadhana Forest parents, we all went to the Auroville Botanical Gardens to pick species that each one would like to plant and watch grow in Chldren’s Land. The majority were fruit trees like mango, chico, sweet lemon, pomelo, berries and various colours of flowers like golden shower, plumeria, hibiscus, perfection, cosmos and more.
What more do we need?

AAAhhhh. Compost!!!

It is very important give some nutrients to the plants and for this we use our human waste; made in Sadhana Forest by Sadhana Forest volunteers.

Also we need a lot of water and lot of dry leaves to cover the surface of the mound (this is called mulching) to protect against environemental conditions like stong sun and wind and keep the humidity in the soil.

At the end of each planting we celebrate by singing beautiful songs to the trees and we give a lot of love from our hearts.
